AQUALYX® was developed by the renowned aesthetic surgeon Prof. Pasquale Motolese in 2002 and has been used for many years in different countries of the European Community and abroad. The manufacturer Marllor states sales of two million vials in two years. No major side effects have been reported and the treatment is well-tolerated and successful. Aqualyx® works by dissolving the fat cells. The body then expels the released fatty acids naturally through the lymphatic system. Aqualyx® is a non-surgical solution to reduce and permanently remove stubborn localized pockets of fat. Aqualyx® is one of the best alternative non-surgical solution available to clients who do not wish to go under the knife (surgical Lipo-suction).
At Bedford Skin Clinic, we use AQUALYX® for a range of treatments including;
Aqualyx® is injected directly into the subcutaneous fat tissue using a needle / cannula. Within the following weeks the treated fat cells are gradually dissolved. Aqualyx® is intended for patients with localised pockets of fat not responding to diet or increased physical exercise. Aqualyx® is not intended for weight loss, it is used to improve and contour the body. Patient must maintain a stable / healthy weight, eat healthy and continue workout as usual.
Aqualyx® is used to permanently reduce the fatty tissue and once removed, fat cells will not reappear unless the patient gains weight. The number of sessions required can vary between two and eight sessions according to the characteristics of the treated area with three to four weeks interval to achieve desired results.
Avoid taking anticoagulant, aspirin or antiplatelet drugs in the days preceding injection (unless for medical reasons). Avoid tap water on the injection site for 24 hours after treatment.
Avoid exposing to extreme cold or heat sources (UV, sauna, Turkish baths…), for 2 weeks following injection.
Inflammatory reactions such as redness, swelling, oedema, erythema, etc., possibly combined with itching or slight discomfort can occur. These reactions may persist for about few days.
Although not very common allergic reactions such as nettle rash, bronchial asthma, symptoms of shock, hyperpigmentation if the treatment areas are exposed to the sun immediately afterwards (hyperpigmentation may last up to several months). To date there have been no recorded cases of permanent redness or hyperpigmentation.
